The right to play

Playday, the national day for play, took place on 3 August, with thousands of children and adults across the country getting involved. On Playday and throughout the summer, children, young people and communities get involved at hundreds of locally organised events to celebrate children's right to play and to highlight the importance of play in children's lives. Playday began 24 years ago in response to cuts to play in London, and today is a national campaign with thousands of supporters and hundreds of local groups across the UK. Playday is a campaign run by Play England – part of NCB. Find out more.

Residential Success

Children and young people from Acorns recently attended residential breaks at the Calvert Trust in Devon, which provides experiences for young people with palliative care needs. The young people chose to take part in activities including abseiling, rock climbing, swimming, canoeing, zip wire and horse riding and evening social activities. At the start of the trip many of them were nervous but by the end they were excited and delighted about how much they had achieved. Staff reported that the young people ‘blossomed and thrived’ with a marked increase in their decision making and confidence levels during the trip. Find out more.
