Legacies
A way to help Childlife in the future
If you are thinking about writing a Will or amending an existing one, including a charity can be a very special way of helping good work to continue in the future.
70% of the population give money to charity during their lives, but only 4% leave money to charity in their will.
The process of writing or changing an existing Will can seem daunting at first, and is bound to raise a few questions.
Why do I need a Will?
It is important to write a Will to ensure those you care about will be provided for when the time comes. If you don't have a Will, your estate will be distributed according to current legislation, and if you have no surviving relatives, the Government is entitled to everything.
Why leave a legacy to Childlife?
Legacies are an important source of income to charities, enabling supporters to make a final contribution to a cause they feel strongly about.
How much should I bequest?
You can leave either a fixed sum, known as a Pecuniary Legacy, or part or all of your estate, once all your other gifts have been distributed, known as Residuary Legacy.
How do I include Childlife in my Will?
If you wish to include a gift in your Will to Childlife, you should consult your solicitor or professional advisor to help you word the bequest correctly. If you don't already have a Will, they will help you write a legally sound one and, if you need to update an existing Will using a form known as a Codicil, they will advise you accordingly.
How do I choose a solicitor?
Ask friends or relatives if they can recommend a solicitor or other professional advisor, check the Yellow Pages or call the Law Society on 020 7242 1222.
We appreciate that leaving a gift to Childlife in your Will is not a decision that can be made overnight and is a very personal decision. However, if you do decide to go ahead, or have already done so, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you. If you wish to advise us that you have included Childlife in your Will, it would be appreciated.
