National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS)

Boy using sign language

Most deaf children are born into hearing families with no experience of deafness. The NDCS can provide support to help deaf children and young people make the most of their skills and abilities through:

  • A Freephone information helpline.
  • Regular publications on a wide variety of subjects and The NDCS Magazine.
  • A mobile audio technology showcase.
  • Campaigning for improvements in health, education, state benefits and other services.

£5 a month pays to produce and send two Family Information Packs to parents desperately needing information and support.

"As a trustee of Childlife and Deputy Director of Fundraising at the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS), I have a unique role in understanding the importance of the money raised by Childlife supporters and the massive impact it has on the services we are able to provide to deaf children, young people and their families. NDCS believes that the family is the most important influence on a deaf child's development and thanks to the donations from Childlife supporters, NDCS has been able to expand the support services we have available. These include family weekends for parents with newly diagnosed deaf children, where parents can meet other parents of deaf children and share experiences. These weekends are vital for parents to get a greater understanding of what lies ahead for them and their deaf child - and how NDCS can be there every step pf the way with them. Through funding from Childlife we can continue to run these weekends all across the UK."
