When parents are at breaking point, Acorns Children’s Hospice is there to support them.

‘My daughter Marwah requires constant care… I was literally like a zombie. At Acorns, I am able to let go. I get a rest from giving care and I’m just Mum.’ Nizet

Four-year-old Marwah has a life-limiting condition that affects many parts of her body, including her organs, skin, and bones. This means she needs round-the-clock care, which weighs heavily on mum, Nizet: ‘I do all of Marwah’s care… She is too precious to me for me to let anyone else care for her.’

Fortunately, Marwah is able to visit Acorns Children’s Hospice in Birmingham for hydrotherapy – and this has proved beneficial for Nizet too: ‘Every time Marwah has hydrotherapy, she sleeps through. So, I get a full night’s rest.’

It’s about fun – not just coping

Marwah absolutely loves the pool, especially when her sisters and cousins come along for ‘family splashes’. She also receives home visits from outreach worker, Laura, who helps her with fun activities such as planting seeds, making cakes, and painting pictures.

Today, Nizet is happy for Marwah to stay at Acorns overnight, reassured that she can also sleep over. And with expert support all around her daughter, she can finally relax and just be ‘Mum’. ‘I’d be lost without Acorns’ she says, adding: ‘it’s not just a service, it’s part of my family.’

This is the kind of lifeline you are helping to provide. Thank you.
